LAST year, in the BBC drama My Dad, I played a character whose wife had Alzheimer's Disease. It gave me an insight into how devastating it can be for the person who has dementia, and for their families.

Since then, I have been supporting the Alzheimer's Society.

The Selby and York branch of the society is currently looking for people to help raise money by registering to take part in a guided Memory Walk on Saturday, September 23.

There will be a choice of a six-mile route alongside the River Ouse, departing from the Designer Outlet at noon and making its way to Rowntree Park, or there will be a much shorter, fun walk around Rowntree Park between 2pm and 4pm. Everyone who registers will be given a Memory Walk label where they can place the name of anyone they would like to dedicate their walk to, who has been affected by dementia.

For more information and details of how to register, you can either visit log on to www.alzheimers.org.uk/MemoryWalk or you phone Gill Myers, who is the branch manager of the York office, on 01904 799335 I do hope you will find time to support us.
