TRIBUTES have been paid to a cyclist who died in a crash with a bus.

Eddie Wharram was killed in Barlby Road, Selby, when his bike was in collision with a number 415 bus.

A minute's silence was held in his memory at Selby Cricket Club's 4th XI match against Stockton and Hopgrove, at Hopgrove playing fields, on Saturday.

Eddie, of Selby, who was in his 30s, was a keen sports enthusiast and known to many on local cricket and rugby circuits.

Michael Pearce, chairman of Selby Cricket Club, and Selby Rugby Union Football Club, said: "Eddie will be missed very much. He wasn't a player, but he was heavily involved in the social side of things.

"He loved going to matches and all the players knew him.

"He was well known not only to our team but to other clubs because he was a bit of a character. He was quiet in his own way but he was also one of the boys. He was always very affable, very pleasant and he was very much a part of this club."

Eddie's father, Bill Wharram, is a former vice president of the cricket club.

The road was closed between the tow bridge and the A19 roundabout for seven hours after Friday's incident.
