POLICE in York have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed an assault in Blake Street last month to come forward.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, June 11, and left a 24-year-old man unconscious with injuries to his face and body, and in need of treatment at York Hospital.
A police spokesman said several people stopped to assist the victim, as he lay in the street outside McDonalds fast food restaurant, and may have witnessed the assault, which the victim cannot recall.
PC Kelly McTighe, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “The victim suffered concussion in the incident but fortunately he escaped any serious injuries. It is believed that a number of people stopped to help him and it is an important part of our investigation that those people come forward and speak to us.
“They may have seen the assault take place and could well be able to help us identify who was responsible.”
Officers are also studying CCTV footage from cameras around the area at the time of the incident.
Anyone who can assist the police with the investigation should contact the police, on 0845 6060247, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
