A BLEMISH-FREE closing round of 67 at the Scottish Open proved Simon Dyson’s game is in fine shape ahead of this week’s Open Championship.

The 33-year-old York golfer fired a five-under par finale to complete the three-round, storm-lashed Inverness tournament on 11-under in a share of 25th place.

Dyson birdied the second and third holes before ending a run of eight pars with a birdie four at the 12th.

He finished with a flourish, picking up shots at the 16th and 18th holes to bank a pay cheque for 31,859 euros.

Dyson will now head for Royal St George’s after being added to the Open field following the withdrawal on Friday of American David Toms.

The Scottish Open was won by Dyson’s close friend Luke Donald, the world number one, who finished on 19-under to win by four shots.

Donald shot the lowest round of his European Tour career, a sparkling nine-under 63, to dominate the event on the final day.

Said Donald: “It’s nice to get another victory – I can get used to this.

“To do it on a links is even better and when I play well I tend to do reasonably well the next week.

“This was perfect preparation. It doesn’t get any better than going out and winning the week before. I’m going to be high on confidence.”

Runner-up was Swede Fredrik Andersson Hed after he burst out of the pack with a best-of-the-week 62.

Harrogate’s John Parry finished 62nd on six-under par.
