A MOTORIST has been airlifted to hospital following a collision on a North Yorkshire road.

The man, who was driving a Vauxhall Astra, was injured in a collision with a Mercedes articulated lorry on the B6265 between Boroughbridge and Ripon.

The road was closed for more than two hours following the collision at around 2pm today.

After firefighters used cutting equipment to free him from the vehicle, the man was airlifted to Harrogate District Hospital with injuries including a suspected broken pelvis.

The driver of the lorry was not thought to have been injured, a fire service spokesman said.
