FOLLOWING my fall in Vine Street, off Bishopthorpe Road, last Saturday, I would like to send grateful thanks to the three kind women who came over to help, called an ambulance and stayed with me until it arrived.

I don’t know your names but it was very good of you. You may like to know that I am recovering well. Thank you very much.

Mary Minter, Richardson Street, York.

I WOULD like, through The Press, to pay tribute to all the staff at York Hospital and especially Ward 11, the preparation and operating theatre for their kindness, help and professional way I was treated while having major surgery over the past few months.

When you see the pay that some professional sportsmen, pop singers, television personalities and bankers, to mention but a few, get, these people at the hospital are worth their weight in gold.

The only criticism I can say is pointed at some of the patients in the ward who insisted in using foul language in front of other patients and the nursing staff, something I consider totally unacceptable.

There are too many moaners and whingers around and I feel duty- bound to express my feelings about the treatment I received.

I must add some extra thanks to Mr Baroni and his team who made me feel that I was in very safe hands.

Three cheers for the NHS at York Hospital.

William Smith, Gorse Hill, Dunnington, York.
