A FLAGSHIP £20.2 million building for law and management courses in York will be officially opened next week.

The formal opening of the centre, which will house the York Law School and the York Management School at the University of York, will be performed by the BBC’s chief operating officer, Caroline Thomson, on Monday.

A York graduate, she will also deliver the inaugural Cantor Business Lecture, which is aimed at supporting the schools in bringing prestigious speakers to the university.

The building is one of four major academic bases in the first phase of the university’s £750 million Heslington East campus extension, and vice-chancellor Professor Brian Cantor said: “As a world-class university, it is vital our campus and supporting facilities are of the highest quality.

“The new building is a physical expression of our determination to foster the highest standards of academic excellence. It will provide an intellectually stimulating environment for interactions between the university, researchers, students and businesses, helping us deliver a world-class student experience.”

The development has been supported through the European Regional Development Fund, part of a project led by Science City York.
