A PENSIONER battled flames which tore through his car after it suddenly caught fire in a North Yorkshire street.

An electrical fault is believed to have caused the blaze which wrecked a Reliant Robin three-wheeled vehicle in Flaxley Road, Selby, on Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters from the town were called to the scene at about 2pm, with the owner of the car, who is aged about 80, being treated by paramedics suffering from smoke inhalation caused by trying to put out the flames.

No other vehicles were affected by the blaze, which also saw police called to the stretch of road.
