STUDENTS at the University of York are inviting people to explore York’s past at the Yorkshire Museum tomorrow.

Visitors will have the chance to handle Viking ice skates, see a “dragon” stone and hold Roman hair accessories at the event which is part of the inaugural York Festival Of Ideas.

The day celebrates the success of the University’s Institute for Public Understanding of the Past (IPUP), a student intern programme giving postgraduate students the chance to share York’s history in hands on and inventive ways.

Professor Helen Weinstein, director of IPUP, said: “It will be a great opportunity for our interns to test out their innovative programme. The intern scheme allows students to use their skills beyond the world of academia, preparing them for the world of work.”

The event is open from 11am to 4pm. Admission if free to those with a York Card or Student Union Card.
