SINCE its launch on August 5 a staggering 27 sports have been featured in Park Life. A quick count of the four editions so far has produced a wide variety of sports.

To date we have had stories on angling, athletics, basketball, bowls, disabled sports, fencing, football, golf, hockey, indoor rowing, karate, karting, motorcycle trials, motorcycling, netball, orienteering, tennis, roller hockey, roller skating, rugby league, rugby union, rowing, shooting, show-jumping, snooker, swimming and tag rugby.

That's an impressive portfolio and Park Life sponsors Norwich Union have decided to reward our local sports stars of the future by selecting a performance of the month.

Each month the winner will receive £50 in JJB Sports vouchers and a Norwich Union star: track goody bag.

With so many fine performances to chose from the choice for August was a tough one.

Eventually we selected York's Under-13 cricket team, which, after several days intensive competition, emerged as Yorkshire champions in the annual Lord's Taverners tournament after a series of brilliant performances.

After storming through their group games they beat Sheffield in the semi-final before crushing North Yorkshire in the final which featured a maiden century by Oliver Stephenson in a record final total of 256-7.

The award refelcts the strength of junior cricket in the York area and the U13 team's managers will be sent their side's award in the near future.

The winning York team are scheduled to receive their Lords Taverners trophy on Friday, September 15.

On the same night, the York and Junior Cricket Association will be holding their joint annual dinner and presentation evening with the York Joe Lumb Cricket squad at the Beechwood Close Hotel, Shipton Road, York.
