YORK City Ladies picked up their first points of the new North East League premier division with a 2-0 win at Blyth Spartans.

City dominated from the off and had several chances until they grabbed victory with a two-goal burst midway through the second half.

On 65 minutes, Tina Reeve chased a lost cause to win a throw-in which found Jenny Garnett and she unleashed a dipping shot over the goalkeeper.

Two minutes later City forced a corner which Sara Renfrew curled into the box and captain Nadine Lewycky's header was not cleared so she was able to collect the loose ball and fire home.

Boosted by their double whammy, York started to play some neat passing football and almost got a third goal when they cut open the home defence again as Lewycky set up Lou Ross, whose shot was well saved.

It was a fine result for York who bounced back well after their narrow home defeat against Bradford the previous week.

Manager Paul Ryan said: "I'm delighted with the performance. The players have picked themselves up, worked hard at what we needed to improve on and put it right."

City Ladies travel back up the A1 tomorrow when they take on Lumley (2pm).

Carlisle have been withdrawn from the premier division for disciplinary reasons and the Cumbrian side's fixtures have been expunged.
