WE read regularly that there is a skills shortage, notably for joiners and plumbers.
There has been talk of using EU workers to fill this gap.
No doubt this will excite our "little Englanders" but the real problem could be solved if the Government recognised what needs to be done.
There is no shortage of young people wanting to learn these skills, but there is a shortage of training places.
The Government has put out adverts for modern apprenticeships, but has done little to help companies to provide the training places.
Why will it not provide money and incentives to employers to encourage them to train young people?
This year, I have eight students who want to learn these skills but they have not been able to find sponsors. Do not blame schools or young people, but examine where the buck should stop.
