IN reply to P R Willey's letter (Code crackers, August 31) concerning disabled drivers parking in York city centre, does he think that disabled people chose to be disabled so that they could park close to shops?
Most disabled people would, I am sure, gladly give up the right to such massive privileges as city centre parking and designated spaces in car parks for the one thing that he probably takes for granted - being able to walk to and from a car parked in a public car park or to use public transport safely.
Mr Willey should consider these points and then think what it would be like to only be able to walk a very short distance, if at all, and still try to live with dignity.
Maybe, come the revolution, Mr Willey, you will get your wish; but to wish a disability on someone is not a nice thing to do.
Mr A Roughton, Carr Lane, Acomb, York.
