AN NHS worker from York is the latest nominee in this year’s Community Pride Awards.
Peter Moore, from Upper Poppleton, works as a community psychiatric nurse at Oak Rise in Acomb, and has been nominated for the Health Service Hero award for his work with mental health patients in the city.
Peter was nominated for the Health Service Hero category by his colleague Craig Russo, who said: “Peter is a true hero who supports clients with enduring mental health conditions.
“He often puts himself out and works in his own time to develop the NHS community allotment, which allows clients who would not have access or the ability to develop their skills and helps their recovery.”
In April, vandals attacked the allotment, at Bustardthorpe, near Knavesmire, smashing shed windows and setting fire to a memorial garden.
Peter said he was shocked and pleased when he heard about his nomination.
Craig, 32, said: “There are a lot of people in the NHS who do a lot above and beyond their job, and it’s good that clients and readers see that there’s some recognition.
“Peter never leaves a patient in need or distressed, often spends time trying to find free items such as televisions or fridges from Freecycle for patients, and frequently stays on longer than he is paid to. I don’t feel he is really aware of just how good and supportive he is.”
All nominees must live or be based in the City of York Council tax area, and the winners will be invited to a special awards ceremony in October.
To make a nomination, please complete the online form before Friday, July 22.
