WAY back in February 2005, your newspaper carried a report "Top Level Meeting On The Future Of Tadcaster" (The Press, February 8, 2005).
As is custom and practice, Humprey Smith, owner of Sam Smith's Brewery at Tadcaster, was "unavailable for comment".
Nevertheless, Mr Smith's photograph appeared alongside the report even though he had "nothing to say" presumably regarding his own role in a long-running dispute.
Fast forward to December 2005, your newspaper reported "Green Light for Town's Revamp" (December 14, 2005). This item included a photograph of Selby District Council leader Mark Crane. To his credit, he did comment on the newspaper report regarding the green light.
Moreover, Coun Crane stated: "The agreement (with Sam Smith's Brewery) was "the fulcrum for a renaissance in Tadcaster", whatever that might mean. As nothing seems to have happened at Tadcaster which could conceivably be referred to as "progress" since December 2005 when Coun Crane made his fulcrum statement, an up-to-date report would seem to be long overdue.
