ONE of the popular venues in the 1970s and 1980s was the University of York's Central Hall.
This venue I'm sure was closed to the general public for rock concerts because Bob Geldolf and the Boomtown Rats wouldn't adhere to the venue's "no dancing" policy.
However, before this I saw many fine groups and artists - ELO, 10CC, Strawbs, Lindisfarne (support for this show was Chris Rea!) Captain Beefheart, Hot Chocolate, Curved Air, Alvin Lee, John Miles - the list is endless!
My favourite show, however, was given by Harry Chapin, who sadly died later that year - 1981, I think - a great singer/songwriter.
Perhaps readers could add other stories regards to concerts at the university - what about the Wings surprise gig?
