COLIN Metcalfe won the annual Ralph Cobb Memorial match on Bank Holiday Monday at the Oaktree Leisure complex, near Huby.

The Quaker Tackle rod led from the productive Pond One where he tempted carp to double figures from peg 20. His winning haul of 74lb 8oz fell to pellet and corn fished between 14 and 16 metres.

Rab Ogilvy (Harrogate Angling Services) was on peg 22 on the same lake and bagged 60lb 4oz of carp on pellet at 12 metres.

Others: Stuart Jamison (Leeds) 53-8-0; Richard Sowerby (Elton Tackle) 46-12-0; Derek Barker (Acomb Tackle) and Wally Walton (Acomb Tackle) both 46-8-0.

Thanks to the kind donation of the fishery by the owners, the event attracted 90 anglers and raised nearly £1,000 for the Alzheimers Society.

Paul Turner of Leeds drew peg 60 in the Tuesday Open at the Willows. Fishing catmeat down the edge, he had a fish a chuck from the off and ended, after only five hours, with 226lb 3oz.

He caught so many carp that he could not lift his keep-net out of the water by himself and needed a helper.

It took five weighs to complete measuring the extent of his epic haul. His mammoth bag broke the lake record, previously set at 203lb. Second on the same match was Stuart Wilson (LAC) with an excellent 98lb and third was Steve Raper (Hirst Tackle) with 93lb.
