Feted as the next in a long line of quintessentially English bands, punk-pop trio The Young Knives wear their influences on their sleeves.
But they are not The Kinks and lead singer Henry Dartnall is no Jarvis Cocker, despite his charity shop get-up and mop-like hair.
And it's where the band's self-conscious geeky "corduroy pop" is most obvious that Voices is weakest, notably on Tailors, which is out-of-kilter with the overall tone. However, when the acerbic guitar licks and rip-roaring vocals kick in, the album really takes off.
The frantic-paced Part Timer is a highlight, as is She's Attracted To, with its joyous refrain of "You were screaming at your mum and I was punching your dad".
The Young Knives display moments of inspired originality, far more so than many of their contemporaries. This is renaissance time once again for British indie-rock.
