A 5.5km (3.5-mile) stretch will be closed overnight in both directions between junctions 31 and 32 this weekend (2-3 September), so that Yorkshire Electricity Distribution Limited (YEDL) can upgrade overhead power lines safely.
At the same time Highways Agency contractors will be renewing road studs, carrying out safety checks, clearing litter and cutting grass along the same stretch of motorway. They will also be resurfacing on the A1(M) Darrington to Dishforth near Spittle Hardwick Bridge.
The carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm Saturday 2 September to 6am Sunday 3 September and the Highways Agency is advising drivers to allow extra time for their journeys.
A fully signed diversion will be in place for both east and west bound traffic via the A655 towards Castleford and the A629. There will also be road signs to warn motorists ahead of the closures.
