It's one of horseracing's biggest events - and it's got a traffic plan to match. Steve Carroll reminds regular road users of the traffic restrictions which will be in place for the St Leger.

IT HELPED keep the city streets clear of traffic during Royal Ascot at York. It was brought back for the three-day Ebor festival earlier this month.

The traffic masterplan, which was an unqualified success a year ago, is back and will be in place for both days of the St Leger festival.

Formulated primarily by York Racecourse in partnership with City of York Council and North Yorkshire Police, the plan will mean that during racing:

All roads from the South Bank area will be closed at their junctions with Campleshon Road and Knavesmire Road, which will be operating as a one-way system, as on previous occasions
Temporary traffic signals will be in place at the Tadcaster Road and Knavesmire Road junction
Tadcaster Road will remain open throughout the day, but traffic flows are expected to be heavy so drivers are advised to use alternative routes if possible.
Temporary parking restrictions will be in place in some parts of the South Bank area. In addition to this, parking on one side of Church Lane in Bishopthorpe will also be prohibited
Drivers will not be able to turn right from Sim Balk Lane in Bishopthorpe onto Tadcaster Road between the hours of 9.30am and 2pm and from 4pm to 7pm
Drivers will not be able to turn into Sim Balk Lane from the direction of the A64 between the hours of 4pm and 7pm and will have to continue to the roundabout at Moor Lane (near Tesco's) instead
A small diversion will be in place in Bishopthorpe at the Bishopthorpe Road and Church Lane junction
Drivers travelling to and from Copmanthorpe will have to use the Askham Bryan and Manor Heath junction between 9.30am and 2pm
All bus services, including Park and Ride, will run as normal with the exception of the Coastliner service to Copmanthorpe, which will not be available between 9.30am and 2pm
There will be no right turn from Moor Lane on to the A1237 between 10am and 8pm
