IT IS hardly a surprise to hear Andrew Collingwood writing in support of the Labour candidate in Heslington (Letters, April 15).

After all, Mr Collingwood is himself also a Labour candidate (even if he doesn’t seem too keen to promote that fact).

However, what is surprising is his assertion that David Levene would make a good councillor for Heslington. I haven’t seen him in Heslington campaigning. There has been so little in the area from Labour recently that I wondered if they had realised they were too far behind to have any chance of winning the seat.

Labour has done nothing for the residents of Heslington. After coming third at the last elections, the party will have to do an awful lot more than send a few supportive letters from its own candidates to have a chance of doing any better this time.
