TRAVELLING by train from Micklefield, near Sherburn-in-Elmet, to Ilkley, I showed my OAP pass and the fare was only £1 return (50p each way).
Sitting back relaxed, I avoided the congested roads and traffic jams.
On leaving Ilkley at tea time, all the passengers were coming the other way out of Leeds. This reminded me of a good old-fashioned bank manager who used to stress it to me: “If you’re doing opposite to the crowds, you’ll be a winner.”
For example, if you’re selling a house when everyone is buying, you’ve cracked it; but if you’re selling one when everyone else is, you’re in it!
The wisdom of the crowd is often flawed.
Also, the phone talk on the train reminded me of a “Zeroth law of mobile telephony”: “The amount of useful information conveyed is in inverse proportion to the duration of the call”.
