EMOTIONAL tributes have been paid to young superbike victim Ashley Martin.

Friends and relatives of the East Yorkshire teenager have spoken of their sorrow, following his tragic death on Monday.

As reported in yesterday's Press, 18-year-old Ashley died after coming off his Honda 600 bike at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, during a qualifying session for the British Supersport Championship.

He had been riding for four years, having followed in the footsteps of his older brother Chris, 25.

Yesterday, Ashley's family paid tribute to a "lovable, outgoing, fun person" who "lived and breathed racing", and today friends of the Shiptonthorpe rider paid their own respects.

One of Ashley's best friends, Gaz Bowman, 18, said: "To Ash - the best mate I ever could have had.

I just can't find the words to describe how I feel at the loss of you from my life. We had some awesome times together - from driving the field car to going to Superbikes, or just being at your house. We'll get your MR2 back on the road for your last ride. I'll never forget you mate!"

Ami Walter, 24, wrote: "Ash - although I had only known you for a short while, it was clear from the start that you loved life and lived each and every day to the full.

"You had a fantastic sense of humour and were a hugely caring person. I am sorry not to have had the opportunity to learn more about you. You will be etched on my memory for always."

Another friend, Harry Matthews, 18, wrote: "Ash - I've known you nearly all my life and you've given me so many happy memories. It's hard to say which one is my favourite. The most memorable one was those days when we used to mess around in English together, making each other laugh and trying to charm the girls - not that we ever got anywhere! However we did get lucky and ended up with two stunners. I will always miss you no matter what. RIP."

Harry's girlfriend, Emma Chisholm, 17, added: "Ash - I've had many happy memories with you, like the time we went round Beverley on New Year. You and Harry were glued to the dance floor, strutting your stuff - that made me laugh!"

Another friend wrote: "We've been through a hell of a lot over the time I've known you - some highs and some not so high.

"You will be sadly missed in the motorcycle world but even more so in and around your lovely family home."
