MY HUSBAND and I, my two daughters and their families (11 people in total) have just spent an afternoon applying for tickets for the 2012 Olympics, but the information given by Lord Coe regarding ticket prices and availability is totally misleading.

There are few children’s ‘pay your age’ and OAP-rated tickets. There is a limit on the number of tickets available to any one applicant, mostly four or six, so three of us had to apply for some each. We have no idea how many we will be allocated from the tickets we applied for nor their price; so do not know how many of us will be able to go or how much it will cost. We were told that unwanted tickets would be bought back, but it appears they only go on a website where they may be bought – or not.

Then three-star hotels whose normal charges are £80 per night are charging £300. And the vague suggestion of early and late trains during the Olympics leaves travelling there and back in a day uncertain.

What do we do now? Hope that our application is not successful?
