ANDREW Collingwood (Letters, April 15) ignores the fact that in Heslington at the last election, the Greens came second, marginally ahead of Labour.
The fact is we elect our councillors and not our council. With the Lib Dems likely to suffer and Labour gaining strength across the city as they do in opposition it seems a change of council is imminent.
As a Green councillor and university student, I would be well placed to represent the interests of residents and students. On the issue of student housing, I have been urging the council to take an approach that would facilitate stronger mixed communities, while addressing the needs of the student population.
A Green group strong in its opposition to cuts and privatisation strengthened by my election would be an important check and balance on a new administration.
I would urge people to support Green candidates across the city in order to maintain diversity among our representatives and the fresh ideas they can bring.
Caleb Wooding, Green candidate for Heslington.
