THREE teenagers have “climbed” almost two Mount Everests in their bid to raise hundreds of pounds for York Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit.

Christopher Ross, Ben Rule and Sam Woodcock, all Year 11 pupils at Archbishop Holgate School, York, had been hoping to scale a combined total of 9,000 metres – the height of the world’s highest mountain – on the ten-metre climbing wall at Energise, in Acomb.

But they ended up climbing 15,000 metres between them by the end of their epic, week-long challenge on Friday afternoon,, and their efforts look set to raise about £650 for the unit’s support group.

The trio, who suffered some blisters, but were otherwise unscathed, were inspired to raise funds for the unit after the baby of a member of staff at their school was cared for there. Sam also spent time in the unit when he was a baby.

The trio say cheques, payable to York Special Care Baby Unit Support Group, can still be sent to the unit, with a note to explain what they relate to, while donations can also be made online at justgiving.com/Christopher-Ross1
