FULFORD have broken all records in the IT Sports York Mixed Tennis League with four of their teams winning titles.

Their fifth team came from behind to pip long-time division seven leaders Wheldrake 2 with a win against relegation-threatened Riccall 2. Once again, Fulford's strong pool of good juniors were to the fore with Joanne Middleton and Tom Walker well backed up by Beryl Bean and Mark Cook.

Having won promotion, they clinched the title in a close encounter with Appleton Roebuck 2.

Riccall 2 travelled to Dunnington 4 but could not get the better of the home side's Sue Jackson and Nick Holbeck.

Husband and wife duo of Sue and Rob Pauer, who have only made a handful of appearances this season, were Poppleton 4's heroes in their win over Sutton-on-Derwent 3, which saved them from the drop.

Fulford's first team finished third in division one after a big win against Poppleton in an encounter which saw both teams struggle to field their first choices.

Wetherby Castlegarth will be relegated along with Civil Service 1 - the two teams who were promoted last year - after losing their final match against Dunnington 1, whose Denise Bolam and Trevor Loten were in top form.

Wigginton 1 lost out to Fulford 3 in the division two title chase after defeat to Stillington. Fulford will now have three teams in division one next year.

Cliffe 1's Kelly Holmes and Dave Tomlinson were unbeaten but could not stop Castlegarth 2 winning their final fixture in division six to take the silverware in style, being one of only two teams to remain undefeated throughout the season.
