A VOLUNTARY service which helps the visually impaired keep up to date with local news will celebrate a milestone this week.
The team of volunteers at Selby District Talking News create and distribute weekly audio recordings of news taken from The Press and other local newspapers, to about 120 people, and on Wednesday will record their 1,000th edition.
John Stell, group chairman, said: “This is a big milestone for Selby District Talking News. Despite advances in medical procedures resulting sometimes in sight being restored, there is still an ongoing need for this service.”
Volunteers use a small studio in Brayton to record, copy and despatch the CDs and tapes each week. To volunteer, phone John on 01757 702494, or if you know someone who would like to receive the free CDs or tapes, leave a message on 08448 118425.
