MARTIN SMITH (Letters, April 13) is quite right when he says that instead of an AV vote next month we should be having a meaningful referendum on our EU membership.

Thankfully more and more people are realising that Westminster is now just no more than a rubber-stamp for the decisions made by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels.

These are decisions that affect our day-to-day living at every level and it is time that the people in this country were given the chance to say whether that is a situation with which they are content. Or whether they want to withdraw and let the UK make its own decisions.

I know from talking to many local people that they feel just as I do and want no more EU bullying.
