A BURNING shed has caused a nearby car to set on fire in Selby town centre.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at St James Terrace at the bottom of Audus Street, just off Gowthorpe in Selby town centre at 11.55am.

They said the fire has been put out but is believed to have caused substantial damage.

The burning vehicle, which was not the homeowner’s, belonged to a woman from Goole and she was assisted home by police.

Local traders on Gowthorpe said that Audus Street was blocked off to traffic, but has been reopened.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are making enquiries as to who owns the shed, a police spokesperson said.
