IN RESPONSE to Dave Moores (Letters, April 9), I did not describe the EU as socialist, I made reference to the United (Socialist) States of Europe project which is the clear goal of EU federalists.
It is a system of international governance, controlled by unelected commissioners, whose power effectively superseded that of properly elected national governments that produces innumerable laws and rules without any proper consultation.
It is a system whose accounts had basically failed a rigorous audit for over a decade and a situation in which millions of people in various member states would vote to leave.
Instead of a futile referendum on AV, we should be having a meaningful referendum on our continued EU membership.
