PRIMARY schools in York are being offered free books detailing the history of York.

Publishing house, ENDpapers had the idea for a historic adventure trail book, called Breadcrumbs, in 2005, when reflectors were placed on the pavements of York to show the route through the city.

The book accompanies the trail with stories, poems and information about the life and times of the city, designed for use by children and families.

Director Magdalena Chavez, who also owns El Piano vegan and gluten-free restaurant on Grape Lane, said: “We entered into an arrangement with the City of York Council some time ago to bring out this book, but unfortunately with little advertising and promotion available, very few copies were taken up.

“These beautiful books are now becoming a storage problem so, keen to get them used and into the hands of the public, we are happy to donate them back into the community that the book was written about.”

ENDpapers has emailed 53 primary schools in the York area and ten have collected copies.

The books are available until the middle of April after which, due to storage reasons, they will need to be destroyed.

Schools can email info@el-piano.com to claim the books.
