PUBLIC meetings have raised people to anger over the supposed ten travellers’ sites to be provided in Selby District. Hemingbrough Parish Council’s website confirms the ten-site figure.

Local politicians have jumped aboard the bandwagon of opposition.

Selby Council’s consultation document proposes one site for ten pitches of approximately one hectare overall size.

Their consultation reasonably asks residents if they would prefer one site as proposed, two smaller sites or something else.

Somebody has confused sites with pitches.

Selby Council extended its consultation period after being surprised at the furore.

I haven’t heard a correction from them or from local Tory election candidates, who would look rather foolish riding a bandwagon against only one site somewhere in Selby District.

My foreign-born wife was told Selby would be getting ten rugby pitch-sized caravan parks and three of them would be in Hemingbrough. She laughed when she read the truth in the consultation document.

Nigel Adams MP has called for consultations over the location of a new travellers’ site to be delayed and that Selby District Council should wait until the Government has completed its own planning policy.

The MP wants that, the public wants that, so the Conservative-led council should listen.
