THE Tyke Petroleum Men’s Doubles Tennis League season gets under way on Sunday with defending division one champions Poppleton hosting newly-promoted Wigginton.

Division two champions Wigginton are gearing up for their first season in the top flight for almost a decade. Pocklington’s first outing in the top division will be away to last year’s runners-up Fulford.

There is a record entry of 58 teams representing 32 clubs, in the league this year, with the smallest club Sherburn-in- Elmet playing their first division three match at home to Cawood.

Sherburn won division four last year by a ten-point margin from Cawood.

The newest of the 32 clubs are Harlow, who won division seven last year in their inaugural season. They kick off their division six campaign at home to Poppleton 3rds.

Meanwhile, there have been some name changes over the close season.

Civil Service have changed their name to Manor CS to reflect the partnership they have struck up with Manor School.

Knareborough are now known as Knaresborough King James.
