City of York Hockey Club men’s III finished their Yorkshire League division one season in style with a comfortable 8-1 win at Ramgarhia.

York started off the stronger team but it was basement side Ramgarhia who scored first from a short corner midway through the first half.

But York soon levelled through a good strike from Phil Hamilton and then went 3-1 up with two well-poached goals from Rikki Lawrence.

The second half was all one way as York bagged five unanswered goals from Hamilton, Pali Surdhar (2), Rob Prentice and Eddie Shouksmith.

City of York finished fourth in the table.

Promoted City of York II lost 3-1 at home to champions Leeds II in their final division one game.

There was a solid finish for City of York V who wrapped up their division five north campaign by beating relegation-haunted Bradley I 2-1 to finish fifth in the table.

First-half goals from Greg Sykes and Dave Dick put York into an early lead, which they never looked surrendering despite a late reply from the hosts.

It was the same winning margin also in division five north for City of York VI to beat hosts Harrogate III.

From the opening whistle the visitors took the game to Harrogate and surged in front through Graham Cook and Mike Couttie strikes.

But for an energetic display by the Harrogate ’keeper the margin could have been greater by half-time.

However, the hosts came out stronger after the break and pulled one back from a short corner though York were untroubled for the rest of the derby duel.

City of York VII were held to a 2-2 draw by visitors Bradford University I in the same division.

In division seven north, City of York IX went down 2-0 at Ben Rhydding VII and finished second from bottom.
