A GROUP of North Yorkshire parents say they are worried about the safety of their children after their free school bus passes were revoked.

The passes are given to children who live more than three miles from school by North Yorkshire County Council, but 12 families in the Jennyfields area of Harrogate have been told they no longer qualify.

Following a review, the council found the pupils could use a route across a local moor, which cuts the distance to 2.92 miles, instead, but the parents say this will force children to walk through an unsafe area.

A council spokesman said the reliability assessment was carried out using national guidelines.
