POLICE in East Yorkshire have stepped up their drive to ensure residents do not become victims of distraction burglaries.
A team of police community support officers from the Howden Neighbourhood Policing Team distributed leaflets in the Snaith, Rawcliffe, Airmyn and Pollington areas to offer advice on crime prevention to elderly people.
They have also staged talks at meetings of local community groups.
PCSO Rachel Matthews, who led the initiative with her colleague PCSO Michelle Greenfield, said: “Offenders who carry out bogus calls and distraction burglaries often take advantage of vulnerable members of the community, and this in itself is despicable.”
