THE Yorkshire Air Museum reverberated to the sound of vintage engines, as classic car enthusiasts descended on York.

Owners and their nostalgic vehicles, including a 1901 Panhard Et Levasseur, a 1904 Pope Hartford, a 1904 Cadillac, a 1908 Buick and a 1911 Swift – driven by its 80-year-old owner, arrived at the museum on Saturday.

All 24 cars that turned up for the Vintage Car Club run were more than 100 years old.

Most were only able to reach speeds of about 10mph.

Drivers set off in the morning on a round trip of about 60-miles on a countryside route known as the Cobweb Run before heading back to the museum for afternoon tea.

Ian Richardson, spokesman for the museum, said visitors to the museum were treated to the spectacle of some fine examples of early motoring history. He said: β€œIt was a fantastic turnout and beautiful weather. It was a brilliant day for both those who took part and for those visitors to the museum who saw some stunning motors.”
