Knavesmire Harriers have enjoyed a strong start to spring.

Emma Yates was second lady and first lady 40 in the re-run of the Jolly Holly Jog at Ripon on the 10-kilometre course.

Yates finished in 40 minutes 58 seconds, with Kate Nelson second lady 40 in 41-53.

In the Thirsk 10-mile race, on-form Harold Dobson was second in the men 70 category in 1 hour 20 minutes. Kate Nelson was second in age 44 in 1-5.

Other finishers: new runner Simon Colins (1-01), Pete Downes (1-06), Alaister Mcleoud (1-08), Martin Smith (1-09) and Richard Walker (1-09).

Steve Green clocked 44 minutes, Dick Hunter 53 minutes and Helen Farell 59 minutes in the Arkendale 10k, while, in the Wakefield 10k, Carol Buterill timed 59 minutes 57 seconds.

Knavesmire welcomed back Neil Strange for the first veterans race of the year, at Horsforth. He ran the 10k in 36 minutes 57 seconds.

Fiona Strange was third lady and Ian Bithell and Mike Mcgrath were third in their respective age groups.

Simon Griffith was tenth overall in 53 minutes 36 seconds on the Hornsea 10k.

Colin Lea and David Darton travelled to take part in the Bratislava Marathon, with the former finishing in 3 hours 30 minutes and the latter in 3-43.
