At 12, Alexis Jordan was opening shows for Smokey Robinson. By 14 she made it all the way to the semi-finals of America’s Got Talent singing Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing.
Now at 18, she is on the brink of stardom. Like Houston and countless other soul divas, Alexis spent her formative years singing gospel. Again, like Ms Whitney Houston, her debut is a gilt-edged stunning work of art, full of great songs which cross over to both R&B and pop tastes, particularly on Tears For Fears’ Shout.
Typical of someone with a deep gospel background the likes of Happiness, Good Girl and How Do You Like Me Now are positive upbeat tracks, with strong uplifting lyrics, which is such a refreshing change from the current trend of potty-mouthed girls hawking their wares.
