A MOBILE phone application which is designed to help people find the nearest and most appropriate NHS service at the touch of a button has been used by 1,000 people in just a month-and-a-half.
The Choose Well device, introduced by NHS Yorkshire and the Humber, gives those using it the names and addresses of their nearest A&E department, doctor, walk-in centre, dentist, sexual health service and pharmacy.
It also offers first aid and emergency advice and reminders about health appointments and medication.
Paul Johnstone, NHS Yorkshire and the Humber’s regional director for public health, said: “It’s not only helping people find the right service which is close to where they live, it is also helping the NHS alleviate the pressure on A&E units around the region. By informing people of the most appropriate service, the app will help to reduce the number of people who come to A&E when they would be better served by another NHS service.”
