A GROUP of York youngsters have been making plenty of dough.

Twenty-five pupils from Heworth Primary School paid a visit to Burnholme Community College in the city to make bread.

The morning was spent finding out about how wheat is milled into flour then making the dough. The students then went on to make a variety of bread rolls.

The visit was part of the school’s primary liaison programme which links Burnholme with several primary schools in the city. Every half-term the school supports local primary schools by providing additional maths and English teachers as well as supporting schools with drama and art provision.

Head teacher Simon Gumn said: “The primary liaison programme at Burnholme provides an excellent opportunity for our staff to share their expertise with other schools and occasionally provides activities which smaller schools cannot accommodate.

“We encourage students from our local primary schools to come and use our facilities, like science labs, DT rooms and IT suites.

“We are lucky to have great facilities and very happy to share them with our community in any way we can.”
