GEORGE O’DOWD is a witty author, entertaining raconteur and in his time has put his name to many a fine tune. In his spare time, Boy George also moonlights as a Club DJ.

But mostly the records George spins have borne little resemblance to Culture Club, nor indeed George’s solo material, up until now. Ordinary Alien is a Drum & Bass set of clubby dance tracks, high on repetitive rhythm and special effects, but mostly devoid of melody, and sadly lacking the depth of lyrics O’Dowd is so revered for.

Bearing in mind George’s past triumphs, it is ironic that the best track is a cover of Lindsey Buckingham’s Go Your Own Way. But even this is so reconstructed and that it is almost unrecognisable from the Fleetwood Mac original.

The amusing Here Comes the Girls is a great pastiche of mid eighties Bowie, but hidden deep in to the set, by the time it comes around, one has had quite enough Drum & Bass to last the year.
