Strong winds and driving rain made for a difficult angling match at Langwith Lakes, where weights reflected the difficult conditions.

Mal Bailey still managed to put together a commendable 50lb 6oz haul from the sheltered peg five on Bethany’s Lake.

He managed to hold pellet across to the island to find carp to 3lb to post his win.

Some way behind in second place with 37lb 2oz from peg 29 on the same lake was Chris Watson, who was limited to working the margins with pellet.

Poor conditions and a rising river was far from ideal for the third round of the Leeds Winter League on Sunday.

Fished on the River Ouse between Hunters Lodge and Linton, the 9lb 9oz net of Kevin Hartley was more than enough for a comfortable win.

Using a small groundbait feeder and worm at Linton peg 258, Hartley beat a bream of over 4lb and added a single skimmer and eight roach for his win.

Ian Bowman fished the same way at peg 288 and was rewarded by a dozen roach for 3lb 6oz, enough for second place.

The previous day, heavy overnight rain and a rising river made for a low scoring Riverside Financial Services Match.

There were no blanks, however, and joint winners Kevin Pybus and Arthur Benstead managed 5lb 14oz apiece to share the spoils.

Series sponsor Pybus alternated worm and maggot on the feeder at Widdington peg 34 and he was rewarded with a skimmer and a dozen roach from mid river.

Benstead, meanwhile, used the feeder close in to the cover of the bankside for 15 roach and a last cast bream of two pounds.
