THE planning application for the wheel was not actually refused; it was withdrawn and could be resubmitted if the issue of the bats is addressed (The Press, February 17).

Alternatively, a more appropriate and less controversial site could be sought. One which is already cleared with no old buildings or bat roosts, one that is currently unused and likely to remain so for the next three years, one that is readily accessible, one that is close enough to the city centre to provide a meaningful experience, but not so close that it impinges unduly on the Minster or the historic core.

Is there such a site? Yes there is – Hungate/Stonebow.
