THE funeral of the York pilot who was killed in the Cork Airport plane crash will take place on Thursday, his family has announced.

Andrew Cantle was the co-pilot of the Manx2 commuter flight which crashed on its third attempt to land at the airport in thick fog last week.

Five others died in the tragedy, including fellow pilot Jordy Lopez.

Mr Cantle’s funeral service will take place in his native Sunderland, in the city’s minster, at 1pm.

The 27-year-old was sharing a home in the Rawcliffe area of York with his air hostess girlfriend, Beth Webster.

He had been working for Manx2 for only two weeks, pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, when the tragedy happened.

His family has asked for donations in his memory to be sent to the RNLI.
