REGARDING the closure of St Peter and St Paul’s Primary school in Leyburn, we feel deeply saddened and disappointed that it has come to this.
Our grandson attends the school.
He is a shy, reserved boy but, although the family is not Catholic, he was warmly welcomed and has been encouraged in all aspects of school life; he absolutely loves the school.
We have been to many events at the school, the sports day was an inspiring experience – the children are all so well mannered and they behave beautifully. I (Mary) have given an illustrated talk to the school about York’s Blitz – some country children have little knowledge of wartime in a city. They all paid great attention, asking intelligent and pertinent questions.
All the staff are first-class and we feel more should have been done to promote this gem of a school. Our daughter, along with us, is so frustrated that there has been no fight to save her son’s school, letting it quietly disappear. We all support it whenever we can, but it will be a tremendous loss and traumatic for the children having to leave.
