YORK’S John Quantock came within a win of earning a place on the 2011 PDC ProTour.
On the qualifying school’s second day, the Mitre ace beat John Smith (6-3), Ron Atwill (6-4), Matt Jackson (6-5) and Mark Jones (6-5) before a final hurdle fall to Brian Woods (6-2).
Ritchie Corner, another Mitre ace, was just two victories away from clinching a tour card on day three, beating David Coyne (6-2), Richard Walsh (6-0) and Simon Burt (6-4) before succumbing to Lee Palfreyman (6-5) by the narrowest of margins.
Both players will now be unable to compete on the 128-strong PDC circuit, featuring fellow Minstermen Chris Thompson and Martyn Turner, but will still be eligible to enter UK Open qualifiers, non-UK Players Championships and the World Championship qualifying tournament.
