PLANS for a new gipsy and travellers’ site in East Yorkshire will be displayed for the public next month.
The current site, in Woldgate, at Bessingby Hill, near Bridlington, is more than 30 years old and East Yorkshire Council has declared it unfit for purpose.
Proposals for a new site, to be built using £1.4 million of central government cash near the camp’s current location following its demolition, will be displayed to the public at an exhibition in Bridlington on Tuesday, February 1.
Other areas to the north and west of the town had been considered.
But the council decided to maintain the current links between the travelling community and local facilities, while minimising the impact of a new site by building it in the place of the old one.
The new plans show 22 pitches, four more than now provided, which the council said would allow it to deal more effectively with illegal encampments in and around the area.
The public exhibition will take place at St Mark’s Church Centre, Bessingby Gate, West Hill, Bridlington, on February 1, between 11am and 6pm.
