A well-known York hotelier who also ran a popular city-centre fish and chip shop has died aged 80.
Jim Adams was the proprietor of Galtres Lodge Hotel in Low Petergate before he moved to Adams House in Fulford Road and later the Saddle Inn, also in Fulford Road.
He was a member of the York Rugby League Club Vice-Presidents Club and a keen golfer.
Mr Adams was born in York and educated at Fishergate School. He trained as a bricklayer before joining the Army, serving in the Korean War.
When he returned to England he went into partnership with his brother-in-law, Albert Mitchell, running the city-centre fish and chip shop, Petergate Fisheries, for many years, before moving into hotels.
He was a member of York Golf Club and Fulford Golf Club, where he made four holes in one.
Mr Adams died in hospital. He had been suffering from cancer. He leaves his widow, Joyce, and sons Jim, Peter and John.
His funeral will be held at York Crematorium tomorrow, at 2.20pm.
